East Bay Energy Assessment
Looking to improve the comfort and efficiency of your home, but not sure where to start? A home energy assessment (also known as a home energy audit) is a diagnostic test that evaluates the efficiency of your East Bay home, and will pinpoint the areas that need to be improved to maximize your home’s performance.
A home energy assessment takes a deep dive into your home, and evaluates how all of its interrelated components work together as a functioning unit, so that you can make the right home improvement and get the maximum benefit for the least amount of work!
What Will an Energy Assessment Uncover?
As the Hassler team has performed these professional energy audits throughout El Cerrito, Berkeley, San Rafael, and the rest of the East Bay Area, there are some common updates that we recommend.
Air sealing and insulation are usually the most common areas of weak home performance. We locate air leaks through what is called a blower door test, and determine whether you need insulation services in your existing walls, in the attic, or in the basement using infrared camera imaging. From there, we can discuss with you how home air sealing works, what air sealing does for a home, and which insulation materials will be best for your home performance upgrade.
Each Energy Assessment Will Locate:
- Areas of Inadequate Insulation and Air Sealing
- Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) issues
- Ventilation Losses
- Sources of Air Loss
- Heating and Cooling System Efficiency
- Inefficient or Improperly Sized Appliances
- Moisture Issues
- Causes of Indoor Drafts
What Are the Benefits of a Home Energy Assessment?
There are many benefits to getting a home energy assessment with the experts at Hassler. Once we have developed a comprehensive plan, and completed home upgrades to your satisfaction, you can experience:
- Increased Home Efficiency
- Lower Utility Bills
- Improved Comfort in the Home
- Better IAQ
- Increased Safety and Health at Home
- Increased Home Resale Values
BESO Assessment
Hassler also offers Building Energy Saving Ordinance (BESO) assessment service to homeowners and realtors in Berkeley who are looking to sell their house. We currently have three Register Energy Assessors on staff.
What is BESO?
Effective December 1, 2015, the Building Energy Saving Ordinance (BESO) will replace both the Residential and Commercial Energy Conservation Ordinances (RECO and CECO), requiring that Berkeley buildings (less than 25,000 sqft) complete an energy assessment and publicly report energy efficiency information to the City and potential buyers prior to sale. BESO assessment is required prior to the sale of a house of whole building. With BESO, the RECO/CECO requirements of installing energy and water efficiency improvement measures, will no longer be required. You can find more info about BESO by clicking here.
Transition from RECO to BESO
The transition from RECO to BESO will begin on October 9, 2015. Sellers may choose to comply with either RECO or BESO. The advantage of complying with BESO is that, the mandatory energy and water efficiency improvement measures required by RECO do not apply to BESO. Sellers only need to complete an energy assessment and share the report with the City and potential buyers.
